J&S Construction completed the build-out of office space at Patriot Plaza for the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation’s (TDEC) Cookeville Environmental Field Office, successfully delivering a fully operational facility that now serves as one of Patriot Plaza’s newest occupied tenant spaces.
The project delivered a modern, efficient, and welcoming work environment that meets both functional and aesthetic goals while serving the Upper Cumberland. Located just off Interstate 40, the office now provides a central, easily accessible hub that strengthens TDEC’s ability to engage with communities across the region, deliver responsive services, and expand its regional presence. With the tenant fully operational, the space is actively supporting daily agency functions and public service efforts.
The completed space houses multiple TDEC divisions, including External Affairs, Administrative Services, Air Pollution Control, Mineral and Geological Resources, Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Facilities, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management, and the Division of Water Resources.
The design balances practicality with contemporary features. Project highlights include multiple restrooms for staff and visitors and an open-ceiling concept with a dry-fall finish that enhances ceiling height while providing a clean, industrial aesthetic. A state-of-the-art sound masking system creates a balanced acoustical environment that helps protect speech privacy, improves comfort, and reduces background noise to support a more productive workspace. Private offices are fitted with solid wood doors and large glass sidelights to maximize natural light and promote a more open, connected atmosphere. Polished concrete floors were installed throughout, offering durability, low maintenance, and a sleek, modern finish.
Strategic storage solutions were incorporated throughout the space, along with dedicated areas including a conference room, a fully equipped breakroom, and an open workstation layout designed to encourage collaboration while allowing for future growth. Large exterior windows provide consistent daylight across work areas, and a fenced parking area ensures secure and convenient access for both employees and visitors.
